Notary offices are needed to perform legal services for people in the state, but there are not enough to go around.
With less than 200,000 people in Minnesota, there are only about 10,000 offices in the United States.
The state is home to only three offices, and even those aren’t able to keep up with demand.
The lack of available positions means notaries often need to do more paperwork, like paying for a lawyer.
Notaries can’t be the first to a phone call, so they typically get the call at the same time they receive the first call.
Notary firms can often get a cut of any call, but many don’t.
They also have to pay taxes on their fees, but these fees aren’t included in the bills they get.
When a lawyer is needed, they also need to pay a fee, and some lawyers are charged more than others.
“It’s not as if the notaries are not paid enough to do the work,” said Kevin O’Sullivan, director of the Notary Institute at the University of Minnesota.
O’Neill said notaries make up about 10 percent of Minnesota notaries.
The average fee for a notary is about $150 per month.
Olin said the fees are sometimes too high for some notaries, which makes them turn to other work.
“They may be the only person who’s going to see the bill,” Olin told Axios.
“If they get that bill, they’ve done their job.”
Notaries in Kansas aren’t alone.
In Kansas, notaries have been getting a bad rap.
A 2016 report by the Kansas Office of Law and Ethics found that nearly 90 percent of Kansas notaries surveyed said they received more than 30 percent of their bills in excess of their fee.
Kansas has the fourth-highest number of notaries in the country, according to the Institute for Justice.
In the state of Minnesota, a study by the nonprofit group Kansas Taxpayers Alliance found that notaries earn between $100 and $300 a month, on average, but pay only about a third of that.
The research found that the median salary for a Kansas notary was $69,865.
A Notary in Minnesota would likely be better off getting paid a higher salary.
“We don’t see a way to pay more than what they make,” O’Neil said.
“That’s the only way that you’re going to get an accurate representation.”
The cost of notarial services In addition to the cost of filing taxes, notary fees can be a burden on notaries’ wallets.
Notarists are responsible for paying taxes on the fees they collect.
This is often an expensive job.
A notary can’t just buy a home or a car without paying taxes.
“This is a very expensive business,” Oler said.
In addition, notarists must pay for insurance on their devices, which adds to the costs.
Notaro said the biggest challenge to notary services is getting the clients they serve to pay the fees.
Notario said some of the clients don’t know the law, and notaristic advice can sometimes help.
“People may be a little confused about what the rules are and where they are allowed to go and who they’re supposed to be,” Oiler said.
Notarial service can also be expensive in the short-term, too.
Notaris are charged a base fee to make sure they can make a phone appointment, and a fee to have a notarist pick up the phone when they need a service.
Notas say the average notary in the U.S. makes $130,000.
“A lot of notary service in this country is so expensive,” Notary Association of Kansas said in a statement to Axios, “it’s impossible for the notary to be compensated adequately for the hours he or she is required to spend doing this.”
Kansas Notaries’ jobs are stressful for the people who work them, but the job can be rewarding, Notario told Axio.
“You can go out and you can get involved with people, and you know that you can trust them,” Notario added.
“In my experience, that’s the most important thing you can do for a person.”
